We have missed them.
Before we ever moved here, we knew we wanted to be involved with the interns at eMi. I am not sure what drove us beyond how much we love the college age group, but we wasted no time in diving in and getting to know them. Having arrived in the middle of the first term of 2015, we did not get much time with that group, but for the summer term we were there from start to finish and we loved every minute.
And they were good to give us so many minutes of their lives.
We went hiking and camping, we mentored and ate a lot of pizza together, and of course there were the project trips which tend to bond you a bit more tightly than many other experiences can. And when they left at the end of the summer we watched with bittersweet tears. A few went home to jobs while most went back to their final year of college. Social media kept us in touch.
Then a few weeks ago Kevin texted me: “The Term 2 2015 interns are coming to the Springs for a reunion!” We hollered our dibs on having them over for dinner and that is what took place here last night. We had everyone except Kaylee (late flight) and Shannon (something about Ethiopia or Ecuador) but we get a good chunk of time with her in the fall so it’s okay (big bummer on missing Kaylee). Over spaghetti and cupcakes we caught up, the guys played Catan and the gals were sweet to fawn over our girls and hatched a fake plan to abduct them and cart them around the country. And then they all thanked us with a framed print of my very favorite photo from one of our trips last summer.
We’re so glad they’ve stayed so close as a group. We feel honored and blessed that they chose to hang with us some more. Loving them helps us love on every new crop that comes through the office doors.
We are missionaries with Engineering Ministries International, based in Colorado Springs, and traveling around the globe to serve.
